A sari is built nothing like a sherwani, and a kaftan behaves nothing like an embroidered lehenga.
Traditional and cultural clothing comes through our Canning Vale studio regularly, and it covers a wide range of styles, fabrics and construction methods. A sari blouse is fitted very differently to a Western top. A lehenga skirt is often layered and heavily embellished. A sherwani has structured construction, while a kaftan or abaya relies on drape rather than a close fit.
Because these garments vary so much, we do not treat traditional wear as a single category with one set of rules. We look at the actual fabric, embroidery, lining and construction of your garment, then explain what can be adjusted and how. Where a piece has hand embroidery, delicate embellishment or unusual draping, we will tell you plainly if extra time or care is needed.
