1. About these terms

This website is operated for The Alteration Shop, a clothing alteration and repair service based in Canning Vale, Western Australia. By using the website, you agree to these terms. When you ask us to perform alteration work, the agreed quote and scope of work also form part of the arrangement.

2. Website information

Website content is general information only. Photos, descriptions, examples, timeframes and service pages do not constitute a fixed quote or guarantee that a particular alteration is possible. Garments vary in fabric, condition, lining, seam allowance and construction, so they normally need to be inspected before final advice is given.

We try to keep website information accurate and current, but errors or omissions may occur. Contact us to confirm information that is important to your decision.

3. Quotes and scope of work

A quote is based on the garment and work visible or described at the time of assessment. The quote may need to change if:

• hidden damage, previous alterations or construction issues become apparent after work begins;
• you request additional or different work;
• the garment differs materially from the photos or information originally provided.

We will discuss a material change to the scope or price before carrying out additional work where reasonably practicable. A photo-based estimate is preliminary until the garment has been inspected in person.

4. Fittings and customer instructions

You are responsible for explaining the result you want and providing information that may affect the fitting. For hems, bring the shoes you intend to wear. Where relevant, bring the belt, shapewear, undergarments or accessories that will be worn with the garment.

Please check and approve the pinned fit, length and agreed alteration during the fitting. We will use reasonable care and skill, but results are affected by the garment's existing design, material, construction and condition.

5. Garment condition and inherent risks

Please tell us about known damage, fragile areas, stains, embellishments, sentimental value, previous alterations or special care requirements. Vintage, delicate, heavily beaded, worn, sun-damaged or previously altered garments may carry additional risks when seams are opened, pressed or restitched.

We will take reasonable care and explain material risks we identify. We may decline work where we believe the alteration is impractical, unsafe for the garment or unlikely to achieve a satisfactory result.

6. Timeframes and urgent work

Any completion date is an estimate unless expressly agreed otherwise. Timing can be affected by workload, complexity, fitting changes, customer availability and issues discovered during the work. Tell us about an event date before approving the job. Do not leave event garments until the last moment.

Urgent work is accepted only when we confirm that it can be accommodated and may involve an additional charge disclosed in advance.

7. Pricing and payment

Prices are based on the agreed work and may vary with complexity, fabric, lining, embellishment and garment construction. Any deposit, payment timing or accepted payment method will be explained when the job is accepted. Unless otherwise agreed, payment is due when the work is completed and before the garment is released.

8. Changes, concerns and remedies

Contact us promptly if you believe the completed work differs from what was agreed. We may ask you to return with the garment so we can inspect it and, where appropriate, discuss a reasonable remedy.

Our services come with consumer guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law, including that services will be provided with due care and skill, be fit for an agreed purpose where applicable, and be supplied within a reasonable time when no time is agreed. These terms do not limit any remedy or right that cannot be excluded under law.

9. Photos and communications

Photos you send are used to assess or discuss your garment and are handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy. We will not use an identifiable customer photo for public marketing without permission.

Messages sent through WhatsApp, email or other third-party services are also subject to those platforms' terms and privacy practices.

10. Intellectual property

The website design, branding, text and original content are owned by or licensed to The Alteration Shop. You may view and print content for personal, non-commercial use, but must not reproduce, publish or commercially use it without permission.

11. Third-party links and availability

Links to external websites or services are provided for convenience. We do not control and are not responsible for their content, availability or practices. We do not guarantee that the website will always be uninterrupted, secure or error-free.

12. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for indirect or consequential loss arising solely from use of this website. Any limitation in these terms applies only to the extent permitted by law and does not exclude Australian Consumer Law guarantees or other rights that cannot legally be excluded.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Western Australia and applicable Commonwealth laws. The parties submit to the courts and tribunals with jurisdiction in Western Australia, subject to any rights you have under applicable consumer law.
